I agree with the unnecessary surgeries idea and was of the mindset that I was just fine with glasses and contacts. We stood to lose a significant amount of money in our medical flex account one year, so I figured that was the only real medical expense I could come up with...I just wasn't interested in losing about $1700.
When you don't have a choice but to use some sort of vision correction, you don't notice the daily hassle. I used all sort of stupid tricks to convince myself that there was something good about, like how "fun" it was to be some expensive frames or how much more user-friendly contacts had become since I started using them.
After 15 years of vision correction, I had forgotten how awesome it is not deal with that stupid bullshit and had forgotten any reference point to the level of hassle. I was saying the same thing, "glasses/contacts aren't that bad, it's not worth the money, not worth the risk, etc."
After having the surgery, here is the simple lesson I learned: [b]glasses and contacts fucking suck[b]. You are a slave to them, they are a damn parasite removing money from your bank account, making it difficult to see your wife's face when you are sexing her, and smashing your face when you want to watch tv and rest your head on something.
