How’s that for a long ass title? You want GTAIV stats, don’t you? Something akin to Bungie.net? Sometime today they are opening up the Social Club where you can get just that. All you need is your Gamertag. Somebody F5 this thing all day and LMK when it opens. Thanks.
If you are like me and want to spend $50 on a game the day before you spend $60 on GTA IV, this post is for you. I have found a couple interesting screenshots and a decent video from MTV that highlights the new Mario Kart game.
First, the screens: basically they show off the online interface and it doesn’t look terrible. Yes, I am also surprised. How does it work? Joystiq highlights:
Spectator mode - When you join a room in progress, you can watch the race unfold while waiting for a new one to start.
Global friend view - Lets you view your friends’ locations and online status.
Room structure - Host chooses race type, but player votes determine course selection.
Sounds decent, doesn’t it? Plus, we have a video from MTV’s Stephen Totillo playing the game. The video is worth watching for a few reasons. 1) It shows the weird wheel and how it plays. 2) You get to see how freaking annoying a video game company salesman can be. Which button is the gas again, you maniac? 3) Totillo gets 12th, 7th, 12th in his three races. I don’t care what anyone says, that is abysmal. I am sure that salesman didn’t have the game set to 150cc. That had to be 50cc. How can we respect him as a VIDEO GAME journalist if he can’t get better than 12th? I don’t care if the control system requires your tongue. I could do better than 12th (last) on 50cc. So, you can keep that in mind as you listen to him on the 1up Yours podcast, etc. Anyway, here’s the video:
Feel free to discuss in our forum.
What do you guys think? Lame sauce? I think the peripheral looks pretty wack. Hand cramps anyone? Plus, you have to “strum” with the touch screen. That doesn’t sound very accurate to me. Some games weren’t meant for handhelds. I might be wrong, but boy this thing looks goofy.
BTW, it only has 20ish songs and will probably cost a fortune since it includes the hand grip. I am going to pass. You?
Cool news from the COD camp: they are debuting 4 new maps for the cool price of 800 points on April 3rd. If your name is Slitt Vicious and you haven’t bought COD4 yet, you can also buy a Game of the Year edition that same day that includes the maps for free. Very cool, Infinity Ward. Way to give us three weeks to enjoy it before GTA IV.
Here at 8-Bit Brigade, we have participated in a few fund raising efforts for Child’s Play over the past couple of years. These events take place over the holidays, but we are now trying to host and participate in charity events throughout the entire year. We’re always looking for good ways to help those in need and show the world that gamers are, by and large, kind and caring people.
On that note, we recently heard of an upcoming charity event sponsored by Gaming4Others (http://www.gaming4others.org/) to benefit a gamer who goes by the handle of RagingJellyBean and who is in need of a kidney transplant. As you might expect, such an operation requires a lot of money, and the gaming community is coming together to help out.
Gaming4Others is organizing a Halo 3 tournament to raise funds for RJB’s operation and the care she will need afterwards. The entry fee for the tournament is $10, and there will be prizes for the winning teams. For more info on the tournament, please visit http://www.gaming4others.org/ev.htm or http://www.gaming4others.org/public/…hp?topic=144.0. For those who want to contribute but aren’t interested in the tournament, you can donate directly. You can visit the donation page at Gaming4Others, or send payment via Paypal to the 8-Bit Brigade Charity fund (8bitbrigade.charity@gmail.com). We will donate all of the money that we raise directly to Gaming4Others.
This is a great opportunity to play some Halo 3 for an excellent cause or to just make a donation. Every bit helps, so if you can, please consider participating.
I didn’t like the Lego Star Wars games. Sorry! Good news: the Batman iteration looks killer, even if the Indiana Jones version doesn’t. Check the trailer here!
