Wouldn't that be crazy? Can't see the video...details?

I would give you the details if I could read your text. Why did you change font color?

isn't that what "Forge" is?

Looks black to me...confused.

I use the dark background and all standard font turns white. For some reason that post has black text.

This is a *real* map editor, as in wire frame background, drop in land pieces. Make REAL maps, not just tweak existing maps.

Is it on the computer and somehow translates to XBox?

Most likely be similiar to Forge, but with more options.

It's a teaser. The video is an award acceptance speech. At the end is a closeup of Chief. Luke Smith is doing the voice. He suddenly says (paraphrasing) "Wait, I know we're not allowed to show them THIS" and the camera pulls back to reveal that he's standing on a piece of land that is part of a map editor that is wire frame. As the camera pulls back he throws a sticky that lands on the camera.

It's definitely a teaser, and it's definitely a map builder.

I used to build maps in Doom and Wolfenstein 3d. This is a map builder.

Should have used "builder" instead of "editor" - this is a build your own map from scratch.

If you've ever used on of those progs before, it's clearly what this is. Could be a feature of Halo 3 PC edition, I suppose.

I will be interested for more details...cool potential, but map builders are typically anti-fun.

I agree.

I do however love reaping the benefits of the architect nerds who will spend days of their lives making perfect maps for me to game on. I have played some very cool maps in various PC games that i never ever could have designed myself.

Adding a map builder adds so much more life to the Halo 3 game, as Bungie can basically form a playlist featuring the most popular downloaded and lauded maps. Some could even be used for DLC map packs, which means Bungie dont have to devote as much time to making more maps, and can let the creative minds of the players try their hand at creating an epic map. They could also, am sure, recreate favorite maps currently not avail in Halo 3, like Sanctuary.

Seems like a great way to increase the map roster. I'd be thrilled if there was a way to play some custom created maps in matchmaking rather than just in customs.

For whatever reason, they haven't even done this with Forge maps, even the popular ones designed for standard game types. I'm a little skeptical that they'd do it with this map builder.

Though this is true, the forged maps are still basically the Bungie maps with different cosmetic changes. Maybe with a map builder, where you could see truly different vistas and designs, its something they may look at more.

The hardest thing for this would be people not knowing their way round the new maps until they play them a lot, or save them and do a walk around. If its in the form of a map that is made for DLC, you can explore the map at your leisure before perhaps encountering it in a playlist.

Foundry maps are about the same size and cosmetically all look the same, but there are plenty of them that are way different than the default Foundry. They haven't even done something as simple as an unranked free-for-all double EXP weekend playlist with Forged Foundry maps.

I hope I'm wrong, since I'm personally a big fan of customs, but unless I hear at least a hint of something from Bungie about it, I'm going to remain skeptical that they'll put general population (not MLG, not Grifball) third-party maps in a playlist.

I guess to clarify, I dont expect Bungie to put third party maps into a playlist, as the maps are a reflection on their product. My comment was more that if this is a map builder, and someone makes some awesome maps, that Bungie would basically acquire 'purchase' the map, and then they can fine tune and tweak it before it can be put out as a Bungie map.

Ok...the idea sounds workable in my head...not sure am describing my vision on how it should work too well LOL

I would bet $10 it's for the PC edition. Halo:CE had a map builder on PC IIRC.

Ahhh... I think I see what you're saying now. I still remain skeptical.
