I would like to be a Zune owner. The idea of synergy between my MP3 player and XBox Live is really exciting. Especially if I could send messages via wifi to my friends on XBL and play the XBLA games on my Zune. The problem is that so far the Zune has sucked. It has wifi [...]

I have a Zune, it was free, I'm happy with it.
I'm certainly not going to try to defend it against the iPod (I've never owned one), but I would say that it does a fine job of loading and playing my MP3s.
I kind of hate the software. My computer is a shitbox, so it wouldn't even install. If you connect your Zune to another computer and are not careful, it will wipe your Zune clean in about 10s as 'Sync' apparently means delete every fucking thing on your Zune. Damnit. I lost all of my free Halo content.

My Brother has a Zune, not the brand new one, he's had it for a year or so now. To be honest I like it better than my iPod 60GB. The reason I don't own a Zune yet is because I have over 120GB worth of music and the Zune Players just aren't large enough. It's got nothing to do with me being too lazy to shuffle my music, I want to be able to listen to what I want, when I want. How the hell am I supposed to know what I'm going to want to listen to two hours from now when I'm driving in my car? I need as much of my music as is possible and the Zune just doesn't hold it yet. But the new iPod Classics can........I'm going to hold out as long as possible but if the Zune doesn't get a large model on the market I will own yet another iPod.

Ouch. That sucks. In general I don't like enabling auto-sync for any MP3 player for just that reason. I drag and drop everything so that I know exactly what the software is doing. The Zune software is a memory hog and can be very slow at times, but it generally works decently. There is plenty of room for improvement, that's for sure. I do like the new features in the 2.0 software and firmware, especially the podcast support. I think the player itself is excellent, and if you're in the market for a music player, the old 30 GB Zunes can be found for $90 or less on Woot and other sites. I think that's a great deal.

If I didn't have my iPod hard-wired into my truck, I would have gotten an $85 Zune from Woot. Unfortunately, I was going to have to spend over $175 to get it set up in my truck, and that just wasn't worth it.

I set up my car stereo so that it has a generic cable going into the AUX input, which is nice since I can plug it into any music player (or laptop/portable DVD player/etc.) and hear it through the speakers. It's a little ghetto but it gets the job done. But, yeah, it's definitely not worth switching to a Zune if you need to spend that much on your setup.

Yeah, I bought my deck right before the front input jacks became ubiquitous. Now I have a nice Pioneer deck with hardwired XM and iPod. I don't want to buy a new deck. Not worth the hassle or money.

Yeah. If it ain't broke...
Also, my stereo doesn't have a front input jack. It's in the rear, so I have the cable feeding out through the glove compartment. That's why I said it's ghetto.

The new Chevy stereo's have a built in front jack input.
Which is very nice :)
As well as the built in XM and MP3 Cd reading :)
And a Zune is on my list.
