Apparently if you die while wielding a shotgun it might fire when dropped to the ground out of your cold dead hands. I wouldn’t believe it if there wasn’t this youtube video with evidence. For more, check the Bungie Forums.

I always knew the shotgun was BS. This just proves it.

I have come to HATE the shotgun and Maulers. I shoot somebody @ point blank range and they laugh but i get shot and i'm dead. I just do not understand. I am going to blame my connection for part of it. I need a faster connection....this 3-6 is killing me.

Do you aim for the head or the chest with the shot gun? When I started paying attention, I found that I have a bad habit of aiming down with the shotgun. I don't do this with other weapons, but have a tendency to do it with the shottie...makes a big difference.

You should also get in the habit of hitting the melee button right after shooting the shottie or mauler. A single mauler will rarely be a one shot kill, unless the player is already weak. But, follow up with a melee and you'll get the kill every time, as long as you are still within melee range.

:stupid:
I don't even think a Mauler can kill a fully shieled enemy in one shot, so definitely should be in the habit of immediately following with melee.
When I have the right area, I've been getting tricky lately with the shottie by acting like I'm going straight for them (when they have a shottie too) and reversing at the last second, they fire and lightly damage me followed by a half second of complete vulnerability while they melee. I quickly shift into D and plow through them with a shottie/melee. Only works when it's one-on-one and there's some space, but it is pretty satisfying.

I will try aiming a little higher with this, hopefully that will correct the issue.

I completely agree with Slitt's assessment and technique. It works almost every time.

I love the mauler almost as much as the shotgun. dual maulers will usually take down a shotgun if you time it right.
